Tethering iPhone in Europe

I have an unlocked iPhone4 with 02 billpay. Go to Spain regularly and want to tether a laptop. Everybody seems to charge extortionate rates for tethering (what's the difference, isn't data just data, no matter how it's delivered?) or the roaming itself. Would anybody know the cheapest way to tether while in Spain?

you'll be mugged big time with 02 firstly for Data Roaming and then for tethering if its not already added on as part of your bundle. I'd go into a shop in spain and pick up a pay as you go mobile broadband dongle if i were you.
or else pick up a vodafone microsim. the live apn includes data roaming on the iphone 4 itself for €2.99 per day

Looks like it will have to be a Spanish PAYG. Vodafone tethering is not allowed.

I'm not sure it's straight forward to get a payg sim in Spain. I think you might need a Spanish address.

What do you mean about VF not allowing tethering? How do they stop it?

Sorry, tethering can't be done via the Vodafone APN. It can be done, but at €12 per day.

A Spanish PAYG sim seems to have worked for this guy, with a mifi router. Main point is he seemed to be able to pick up the sim no problem.
