I know in 1972, we beat France in the 5 nations, my father was there.

How often have we beaten them since then ?

I was trying to find this with the help of Google, but failed....

I think our record against them is not fantastic, can anyone help ?

I think this is missing out yesterday's game so add one more on to it.

Thanks. we have beaten them 7 times since 1972

    1973, 1975, 1983, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2009

In recent years when we lose, we usually lose by a very small margin, much more even than it used to be

We beat them in '73, '75 and '83 according to the link above, then 2000 was the first since 1983. It also says we beat them twice in '72

We did. I know cos I was there. For the second one anyway.

We beat them in Paris for the first time in 20 years on January 29th 1972.

The next day was Bloody Sunday in Derry and that screwed up the rest of the Championship. Following a stirring last minute win against England at Twickenham, both Scotland and Wales refused to come to Dublin because they were frightened.

So the French agreed to come and play an extra match. It was the first international I ever attended as a callow youth.

In those days we expected to beat France in Dublin We did so in 1969, 1972, 1973and 1975 and drew with them in 1971 and 1979. We'd have won in '71 if tries had been worth four points. The only time we lost to them in Dublin in the 70s was in 1977 which was a Grand Slam year for them. Only their second, would you believe.

Mind you, they thumped us in Paris a few times in those years.....
