This thread is not really about discussion but about things you find incredulous, make you angry or make you smile during the election.

It could be a gaffe , policy or anything really.

I was driving thru Portmarnock today and the ties on Larry O'Toole of Sinn Feins posters go over his upper lip creating a milk moustache effect. You can see it at a distance but have to get close to see its the plastic tie. I am easily amused.

What annoys me is Labours ascertion that the bailout can be renegotiated and that it will be business as usual with the public services unions.

That aint gonna happen & I hope no one expects me to swallow that it could. Look what the Greeks have to do.

As an EU-IMF mission in Dublin reviews Ireland’s execution of its bailout deal, Greece was told yesterday that it should accelerate its fiscal reform and privatisation policies. Although international inspectors approved the release of the next €15 billion under its €110 billion plan, they called for greater efforts from the country’s socialist government to stimulate recovery.

So for Messers Gilmore, Burton & Co - that gets #1 on my empty promises scale.

"Gilmore for Taoiseach" on just about every roundabout or streetlamp.

Never gonna happen, love. Perhaps you could have spent money on posters for the candidates that are actually for election in my constituency and may actually have a chance?

Debategate was a fairly silly moment and Simon Coveney's Emigration Comment
However, Simon Coveney said something on The Saturday View on RTE this afternoon which offered the best explanation I’ve heard so far for why Enda won’t take part in the TV3 debate:
“When Enda Kenny makes a decision, he sticks to it”, said Coveney. “Enda Kenny isn’t afraid of anyone”. So is this really about a politician who sees decisiveness as being better than making the right decision? Has Kenny been learning a few tricks from Brian Lenihan?
    That emigration thing
The other big news thing today was a side-issue of Debategate (it deserves the ‘-gate’ suffix by now, right?). Talking about the possibility of there being an empty seat on TV3 on Tuesday when he doesn’t show up, Enda Kenny said ‘it would stand as a symbol to those forced to emigrate’.
Mull that over in your head for a minute. If you can see any connection – ANY connection whatsoever – between a politician not attending a debate and someone having to emigrate, then please, explain it in the comments. For my money, it’s an early contender for the stupidest thing we’re going to hear during this campaign. A quick Twitter search suggests a lot of people unimpressed with the comment.

I was waiting for a DART at Booterstown DART station today when I saw something that made me laugh

    90455638C2034FB4A29673D950E49F0C-0000341189-0002165759-00800L-CFF222796D224E7991AC15947AFD1AD8.jpg

Its an election poster for Ciaran Cuffe was lying face down in the protected Bird Sanctuary beside the station. I turned my head and noticed on a sign right beside me a message from the Minister from the Environment John Gormley which states "Litter Kills Wild Life". Therefore... Ciaran Cuffe kills wildlife.

I threw the images together above so I could show it all in one image but its there for all to see and have a bit of a laugh at the hypocrisy of it all!

Last week the new FF candidate for Cork North West had one of those motorway flashing light signs that read "Vote no.1 Daithi O'Donnabhain <flash> No Ballincollig Pay Parking". (I live in Ballincollig.)

You know, forget the International Monetary Fund, and the European Union. Forget one of the biggest sovereign debt crises in Europe. Forget NAMA, the bank bailout, the health service and all the other policy areas. What really matters is that we have no pay parking in Ballincollig.

    Fine Gael’s Valentine’s Day app – why? #socialmediacringe #ge11

1 day ago by Darren McCarra | Comment
Fine Gael may have yet again become political adversaries as they continue to advance deeper into the world of social media cringe prior to #ge11 later this month. In a bizarre move, Fine Gael have set up an electronic Valentine’s Day email service on their website (aka, web connection point) that lets users send their love interest an uninspiring valentine’s email, or alternatively, spam some friends.
fine-gael-valentines-day-app-488x325.jpgScreenshot of Fine Gael's terrible Valentine's Day app

I have given this one a try to a FF supporter I know
Another potential problem with the email app is that it doesn’t verify the sender’s email identity before sending out an e-card, so it’s possible to pretend a message is coming from someone else. The example below shows a fake email of affection sent by Enda Kenny to Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin. It’s unclear whether the exchange has been reciprocated.
