Hi guys, wondering if you could help me out here. My upstairs heating can be turned off at the moment by turning off a ball valve on the return from the upstairs circuit. I want to put a motorized valve and switch in so it can be turned on and off by a switch outside the press as it's a bit of hassle getting to the ball valve at the moment. Any ideas on what i could use. Have to put in a new insulated hot water tank next sat so I'm hoping to have something by then so i don't have to drain the system twice. Thanks in advance for any help

Something like this should do the job you.

    http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/honeywell-v4043h-1056-22mm-zone-valve-240v-closed-with-aux-switch/

Take power from the immersion spur and run it through a switch.

Thanks lad's. The two main zones have a couple of rooms in them so a state wouldn't do much in the second zone and i fitted a new digital stat in the first zone already which is a hell of a lot better than the old dial type. My biggest problem will be finding a 3 zone controller that my better half can set lol. Would it be ok to have the third zone as the hot water tank ?

yeah a motorised valve with a room stat would be best, even a wireless stat so you can move it from room to room if that suited better. you really need a stat to keep up with the regulations I think.

Horstmann H37 is pretty much one of the best clocks on the market, easy to setup and use, 3 zone, 7 day 24hr timer. Maybe more expensive than some but well worth it.

Basically you have your HW zone as your first zone iirc, then heating 1 (Downstairs) heating 2 (upstairs)

Hi Sparkpea, just wondering if you can expand on that. Why do the regulations require you to have a stat?

Well the stat closes the motorised valve when the set temperature is reached thus saving energy be it oil/gas etc. saving the universe one step at a time :D

I dont know what your regulations in the south state exactly but for the extra cost of £20 or something for the stat would you not rather install it and try save yourself some fuel? I know any houses being sold need a EPC (energy performance certificate) up north and in the EPC it states whether you have temperature controlled heating controls and all these things add to the rating of how energy efficient your house is and what its potential could be.

My mate called today to have a look at the job and he's talking about using a system link box... seems to be just a fancy manifold which will set me back about 350 Bills. Can this not be done with normal piping ? . do i need to fork out for for this manifold. he wants me to dedicate a small pump to each zone. seems very OTT to me
