You can find the rap here and his website here.

I won't be giving him a preference since his policies all seem rather vague and I'd like to see something more concrete and well thought out. Given the competition though, I'm still open to persuasion, even if it comes in the form of a questionable rap ;)

I like Mannix Flynn a lot although I disagree with some of his politics.

One small item in his manifesto really caught my eye and it is something that might have a lot of financial potential, which is the development of an 'evening economy'. Ireland is perceived abroad for its warm and vibrant nightlife and that can be a significant tourist attraction. However you will find that museums, galleries, and public transport all shut down quite early in Ireland in a way that is not only prohibitive from a tourism point of view, but in fact cuts Irish people themselves off from their own public creative and social facilities, to the possible detriment of the so-called evening economy.

I would hazard a guess that Mannix Flynn, being an artist, came up with that on the basis, perhaps, of Culture Night, when city galleries, museums, retail outlets and buses all have special night services and late opening. There is a very special buzz around culture night as I'm sure anyone who has engaged with it will agree, and if that is something that the country could replicate on an ongoing basis, it would certainly be to the social and financial benefit of the people.

Mannix still hasn't learned the art of basic manners I see, 'storming' out of a meeting on arts funding (just listening to report on NewsTalk).

With a crowded field of independents, he will be doing well not to be eliminated early.
