    Hello ,

Im currently doing the LC and i applied for the degree in Agricultural Science at W.I.T. . I am wondering if any student who is currently doing the course would be able to tell me a few things about it ? I am doing Ag Science in school and i really like it . I am also doing ordinary level physics and I hate it .
What is the course like ?
Is there a lot of biology and chemistry involved as I do not do any of theese ?
Is the course very science based ?
Is there a lot of study involved in this course to be able to get through it ?

I would be gratefull to hear from someone soon .
    Thanks a million .

Not doing the course but I assume you've seen the course outline here - http://www.wit.ie/StudyatWIT/UndergraduateCourses/Science/BScinAgriculturalScience-WD078/
The clue is in the name... Ag Science. You can see that Y1 will be basically Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Maths... seems a strange (to me) choice to do a science course when you hate physics @ LC ordinary level and don't take another science subject? How is your maths?
Maybe the level of these subjects isn't too advanced but you'll have to get past Y1 to get to Y2 where you'll probably have subjects you can better relate to. This is something that is common to a lot of courses I think... Y1 can suck basically :)
When I left school and first went to college I took a science course and I found it a bit of a leap to be doing Physics since I didn't study it at LC level... but it's not impossible.

Hopefully you'll get some better pointers from people who have actually taken this course... also, contact the course leader whose email address is on that link if you want more info?

There is a lot of science, the name is in the title. I've heard things from people like "I didn't realise there would be so much science in it". First year subjects cover all the basic sciences and its not easy - especially for someone who hasn't covered many science subjects for the LC. Its a rewarding course but it is a science degree and if you are considering it be aware that you will have a hard time especially with your background. Most of the students who fail first year do so due to the chemistry and physics modules which you will find difficult if you can't handle pass level at the LC. If you pass it though - it will be a lot easier when you do come to study it in college.

Demand for agricultural related degrees is expected to increase for the coming year as it is one of the few areas with growth at the moment. I'd expect the points to be much higher this year than last year so keep your options open.

I did my degree in Biology in WIT. The course (when I started college in 2002) starts with a 2 year Cert in Biology/Chemistry. All the science students attend the same classes in year one (chemistry, biology and ag. science students)

The first year subjects were biology, chemistry, physics and maths. I had done biology and phys/chem for my leaving cert. As I had a background in these subjects i found the first year quite easy as it was a recap on these subjects.

There was parts of the physics classes that I did not like as much. However what I will say is that this course is very practical based there is quite a lot of lab practical classes) ..in my eyes this can be a good thing as you can put to practice the theory that you learn in the classes.

The guys from ag scince who would have been in my class in first year had not done chemistry or biology before however some had done ag science for their leaving. (they al managed it and majority went on to their degree).

After second year, the science classes are divided into the specific subjects. Ag. science used to spend one day per week in Kildalton at the agri college as far as i remember.

At the time all the ag. science crowd went onto DCU to complete their degree because I think the furthest they could study in WIT was to certificate level.

Regards your comment as to how much study would you have to do, all I can say is that as with any college course, if you want to do well you will put in the hours.

What attracts you to this course?

Are you specifically looking to getting into the agri side of things after college? Are there agri. business courses that might interest you?
