On page 19 of the Sunday Times today there is a piece saying that the Dept of Foreign Affairs spent €4.4m building 2 new wings on to the residence of the Irish Ambassador in Canada! It has now more than twice the floorspace of the official residence of the Canadian p.m.

I am gobsmacked....this is crazy even by Irish standards. Who approved this? Sounds like something a corrupt African government would get up to.

Just checking, I put this in the wrong forum...could mods put it in Politics or the appropriate one. Thanks

Our wonderful outgoing FF led Government probably realised that a larger embassy would be needed given the amount of our citizens that are now emigrating there because of the extreme mess they made of the economy.

Well half the country'll probably end up in Canada soon enough, so maybe they're planning to let us all crash on their floor while we're getting our bearings :p
