    Hi,

I started up the pc, it takin a bit longer than normal & then i was greeted with this page

As it was late in the evening when it happened, i just shut down the pc as i was too tired to look into it & shocked as well, but as i've always heard either shut/ restart it usually helps it!

I think it did, as i didnt start it for a few days til i tried to look into it a little bit better,
So i purchased an Ext. Harddrive from Aldi to back up the files, but then i went to hook it up it wouldnt recognise it? even though i swopped the USB 3.0 cable with a 2.0 cable i detached from a 4 - port slim hub as i use it with 2 memory sticks that are no problem?

Hopefully i can get an answer to this as i dont know whether its as serious as it sounds, but i know i've come to the right place.

    Thanks for any help received.

plug the HDD directly into a USB port on the computer

unless the hub is powered the drive may not be getting enough power
if still no joy try each of the ports in case they give 100mA instead of 500mA

use hdtune or manufacturers diagnostics to check the drive

Thanks Capt'n Midnight, i'm only able to post now as after that the pc got hit by a few viruses as my brother had changed some of the settings (allegedly- in case he reads this post!) on the pc & was helping me shift some of the deadweight on the pc yeah i tried that & still wouldnt show up!

It was only til i went to get the pc 2wks later! that i showed him the problem & realised the problem that i had an older pc & changed?updated the port at the back to recognise USB 3.0!

Thanks, as i'll post later as i've a splitting headache at the moment.
