    Howdy all,

As the title says I have a 996 with a cracked block. The crack just seems to be on the outer skin as theres no evidence of water in the oil. The tractor is pretty much parked up these days, so i dont think the cold over the winter did it any good. Water oozes from the crack at a fair rate. Im just wondering if a new engine is the solution or if anyone has had any success with repairing a similar crack.

Rest of the tractor is working the finest.

    Comments welcome.

drain the water , dry off, clean off down to bare metal and rough up a little,

put on some EP-200 epoxy putty over the crack

done a dexta block for my neighbour a few years back and it's still perfect,

    for 6 or 7 € well worth a try.

I have the exact same problem with a David Brown 995. It got cracked during the very cold weather. Some idiot never drained the water:D. Well, I thought I had but left some in the block. I asked a mechanic that has worked with them for years. It cant be welded anyway, for starters. He said to try some to that radiator repair stuff, 'Sureweld' I think. It helped some bit.
Mine is only leaking for about 1/2 litre per a full days use, so not really a problem.
I might try the epoxy like snowman said. No Harm as they say.
