flue for multi flue stove

    Hi all

I intend to install a multi fuel stove in the kitchen of my dormer bungalow but I don't have a chimney which means I have to erect a flue and this is where the problem arrises. I been told by one supplier that I only need to go as high as approximately 1 meter above the eve with the flue but another supplier maintains I need to go as high as the highest part of the roof to avoid down draugts. If anyone can advise me I'd really appreciate it.

The short answer is that it depends on your house. a good rule of thumb however, is to meet both of the following as a minimum:
0.6 metres vertically and 2.4 metres horizontally between the termination point of the pipe and the roof. there is no guaranteed way to 100% say you wont have a downdraught, even if you cleared the highest point of the roof, as trees/buildings/house built in hollow can cause downdraughts as easy as anything else.

thanks for your help, I don't have a problem with other buildings or trees near me but my own roof is quite high as it's a dormer. I have an open fire in my living room and I've never had problems with chimney downdraughts, I'm just a little worried my roof will cause problems with the flue. Once again thanks for the information
