If it was the battery it shouldn't be intermittent, might be the starter solenoid. Is the click instead of the engine turning over or does the click accompany the engine turning over?

I'd be thinking the same as james, however its probably an aftermarket immobiliser?

its just click instead of engine turning over and its like the whole van goes dead once it happens

sounds like a bad connection either at the battery or at the earth where it bolts to the car

Defiantly sounds like a bad connection , check the leads and connections to the battery thoroughly and the earth as well

A multi-meter is a handy tool to have for the checking battery.
Basic one about €10. Also check fuses and relays while your at it too.
Good luck, hope you get it started.
