Old laptop + hard drive options

Have an old laptop (c. 2000), has no hard drive, but is working fine, I can run Knoppix off the CD-ROM drive.

Thinking of putting it to some use, and wondering about hard drive options. It uses the old IDE interface.

Will one of these CF adaptor, and one of these 4GB CF work, for example?

Anything I need to be wary of? Haven't decided what OS I'd use yet, but likely some flavour of Linux.
