Old laptop + hard drive options

Have an old laptop (c. 2000), has no hard drive, but is working fine, I can run Knoppix off the CD-ROM drive. Thinking of putting it to some use, and wondering about hard drive options. It uses the old IDE interface. Will one of these CF adaptor, and one of these 4GB CF work, for example? Anything I need to be wary of?…

I'd be worried about the read/write speeds for CF cards.

Why not get a used 10-20GB IDE drive off ebay ?

you can get 40 gig ide drives on ebay,or google 60gig ide drive 2.5,

2.5" SSD drives from MemoryC. Quite affordable too.
