I have a firebird oil boiler, today it started, ran for 2-3 min then shut down, and would not start again until it was cold.

    It has oil,
No airlocks in the feed system
It has power both to pump and boiler

    Any Ideas?

Is there any leak in the water system ? if so, it would be overheating, and the thermostat would shut it down for safety.
    Check the circulating pump also.

    When was it serviced last?

If its like mine, there is a nut at at the bottom on the left hand side when you take the front cover off. Open that to release a little oil if you think its an air problem. Either way it can't do any harm.

No leak in the water system.
How would I check to see the circulating pump is working?

I removed the cover and undid the little screw, more than enough oil going to the system

    Thanks guys:)

Circulating pump will be bear the boiler, it will have a separate plug for power.

I had something like that happen before and got the pump replaced. I also had some sort of relay on the pump go producing a similar problem.

Best bet is to get a pro in.

It started again, could not tell from the noise of the boilder if the pump was working, but the pipe going to the pump is hot and the pipe comming from the pump is warm.

How much would it be to replace a pump?
