    Hi Guys,

    First post =]

I'm a 2nd year engineering student, so I'll be doing INTRA next year.

I know you receive some wages off your employer during INTRA, but I was wondering if it would effect my grant either in 3rd year or 4th year (as the county council looks back to the previous year to calculate what rate of grant to give).

I was on INTRA last year and my grant hasn't changed this year

Just don't mention anything to the Council and you'll be grand. (and no, nothing illegal with this!)

If you are with DCU Access, you will not receive the Access grant during the year of Intra, as you will be earning money. But if you don't get paid for your work at INTRA (which is unusual, but possible in some cases), say it to Access Office and they'll grant you up.

(if you don't know what I'm talking about when I say 'DCU Access', then disregard that part)

    UBF,
Yeah i know the DCU access and I do know that it is the councils responsibility to check up on my course (thats their job right?)
I just wanted to hear from people who had gone through the system to see how they got on.
    Cheers guys

I don't know the details of your course, but in my undergrad I had a compulsory workplacement and I had to get a letter from the college (not DCU) to say that so I would keep my grant. I had to say it as due to work I was unable to collect my grant and needed it to be lodged. So say nothing if you can maybe.

    Celtise,

your saying if I can lodge the grant myself, say nothing?

That was along the lines of what I was thinking. If I could get away with it :D

Yeah it would probably save you hassle. According to the grant rules when I had placement in 2009, if it was a compulsory part of your course then you still got it. My problem was I was unable to collect my grant as I was on placement in a different city and would have to take time off to get it. i.e. too much hassle, so they lodged it to my bank account. Why they don't do that all the time I've no idea.

Yeah, the lack of logic baffles me, it may be to stop paying people who drop out halfway through the year, as you have to be physically there to collect the cheque.
But, I'm sure the intelligent people in university could develop a system that would check it the student is still registered in their course before lodging the moo-lah.

I know a certain VEC that gives IT students them straight into their accounts. It's weird.

As far as know the majorty of the VEC grants are paid into the recipients bank a/c.
No idea why the maintainence grant is different.
Anyways, cheers for the info guys.
