The dash on my scenic started fading last night and has totally gone this morning. I have seen that this is a common problem and in England Renault seem to be paying towards some of the cost to repair.

Does anyone if that is the case in Ireland and if so how much did it cost?

Eh whats Icd Mr Boots? Just so you know I am not a car person....something breaks and I go Eek What now?!!!

Having read other posts it looks like my dash went the same as others. The clock and mileage would go back to zero everytime I started the engine and then yesterday it went altogether........dont think its just the bulb unfortunately!

It's a very common problem. A customer of mine had to get her 05 Scenic done last year.

There's a place in the UK that fixes them, but I think it needs to be sent off to them (or at least a part).

    http://cartronix.co.uk/products.aspx

They might have a postal service and you could get a local mechanic to do the removal and refitting.

http://www.askaboutmoney.com/showthread.php?p=990036 lists a place in Cork - http://www.kcsystems.ie/ but no cost.

Worth giving the guys in Cork a bell first, although this news item from 2009 suggests that Renault will do it for a nominal fee - http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/motors/2009/1014/1224256601835.html

That article in The Times was interesting......I wonder if anyone has gotten any joy from Renault? Am based in Dublin. Will give them a call tomorrow and see how I get on!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 196 ✭✭tskk

Spoke to Renault today....they are aware of the problem and will fix it for 110 euro. Dont know why cars have not been recalled. It will take 5 to 10 working days to get the part in so I will be driving around not knowing what speed I'm driving or how much petrol in the tank.

Its also beeping about 3 types of beeps non-stop!

Not a recall as it's not a safety issue. Not having the dash display isn't going to cause a crash.

€110 for the job that's involved sounds fairly reasonable. The beeping must be a right PITA though :(

When you say spoke to Renault, was it a nain dealer or directly to Renault.
My 05 Scenic's dash is starting to act up.

I called the customer service number first which I think was 1890 771 771. You get put through to England and they were aware of problem and said if I contacted my local renault dealer they would sort it out. They were not surprised by call so it seems fairly common.

Its the constant beeping and clicking thats going on behind the dash thats driving me mad!

farmerval take a note of your mileage if you can. You will get a new dash so the mileage will go back to zero. Renault said they would have to give you an invoice with an estimate on it if you wanted to sell the car on. I cant remember what my mileage is but its not very high for an 04 car.

Thanks TSKK will give them a bell and hopefully they'll sort me out.

fair play to Renault, at least they are paying something towards it.
Not like my experience with VW and the known problem with pipes leaking petrol over the engine and turbo

Any update on this thread. My 04 scenic dash display has given up and is beeping. Any ideas on the cost from Renault to get a fix. Thanks

Give them a shout they must be well versed in this problem by now. My cousin had the same problem even though i advised him not to buy one!

    Hi Guys,

got mine done in an approved Renault service garage for €100 I had to ask them about Renault subsidising it first and they checked it out and did it then. Had gotten the old one repaired the year before for €250 and only got one year out of it.

It's working out at €110 total to replace the LCD display from any Renault authorised dealer. They would like to have their customers believe it's a gesture of goodwill.

My instrument cluster is going the way of the Dodo in my 04 Scenic II.
Just rang and the cost of this replacement has gone up to €190.
Not happy with this at all.
Is there any way to get them to adhere to previous cost?

Try the Main Renault customer care number 1890 771 771 and explain your case. They may even speak to a main dealer for you.

Just happened to the OHs car - any confirmation if it has gone to 190 or is still at 100 EUR for the fix ?

Our Dash died on Sunday and I've been quoted 190.

    Thieving B@stards.

Its a known fault and they think €190 is a nominal fee?

The customer service were as helpful as talking to the wall.

    Hell needs to be raised

Well, my situation reached epic proportions yesterday.
I hopped in the car to go home from work to find the 04 Scenic 2 was not starting, no lights, nothing, couldn't get the jump leads out of the back because the electric boot release was not working and the leads were under the spare.
Got a loan of a Jump Pack and, without doing anything except touch the, as yet, inactive leads off the battery the car sparked into life.
Did it again this morning so I knew I had to take drastic action.
I knew that the power short in the display was throwing everything else off.
So, I rang around, found a scrap yard with a Scenic 2 going for parts and went up, paid €80 for the display out of it, 30 mins later and we're motoring again!
Not sure about the mileage, the old, faulty, display was reading that the register was blank, so the on board memory of the display was wiped by the flickering power.
But, using the new display, it's within 10,000 of the right mileage so, for an 04, that's alright.
Time will tell if the electrical problems were all caused by the cluster f**k behind the dash but so far so good.
And, at €80, at least I wasn't going to get jerked around but some numpty in the Renault service dept.

Have you any plans for your old display? If not and you might be dumping it, let me know.
