After 7 years of not wearing any watch at all (the batteries had run out on both my quartz watches and I never really liked either) last year I decided to get an automatic watch ...and I started to read this forum ...big mistake :D

Now I'm hooked and I've just bought myself another watch. After toying with automatic / manual wind aviator/military style chronographs for a while, I've decided that they are a) too busy and b) too expensive. But by drooling over Poljot / Strela chronos I stumbled over Vostok Europe watches and this is what I've just clicked on "Buy it now" in the bay:

    rocket-5045b-w.jpg

Vostok Europe Rocket N1 Dual Time
A semi-big (43 mm), semi-in your face automatic with 24h dual time function

Let's see if I can stop now or if I will get that full-on big, full-on bling aviator chrono after all (in a while) ...
(I'm taking bets :D ...the hobby has to be financed somehow)

You're infected. No known cure either. :D Nice looking watch. Like the dual time.

It's not really dual time ...it's a fixed 24h hand, non adjustable. It only becomes dual time when you set the outer bezel accordingly

And just wait till you find all the other brands you may not have herd about yet, Stowa, Steinhart, Oris, Glycine, Hamilton and Orient to name but a few.

It's beautiful!! And I wouldn't have considered myself a "watch person".

Looks like I'll have to get one myself and then gift wrap it and post it to my own address to surprize me !!

I've done some justifying to myself too. "Oh I've given up the cigs, so in advance of half a years ciggie money that one looks nice. It's a health purchase you know". "meh the car doesn't really need four new fancy tyres does it?" :D

Well, "Igor" has finally arrived !

In German we have a nickname for big, heavy watches ...we call them a "Zeiteisen" (= a timeiron ... as in iron the metal not the household appliance) ...this certainly is one :D

"Igor" makes no excuses, takes no prisoners. He's there on your wrist and you WILL notice him.

    + points:
    - very nice bracelet, sturdy, yet pliant, quiet and comfortable
    - makes an impact on your wrist without being bling or loud, does it with "presence"
    - easy to read, time at a glance
    - nice contrasts with the black, white and red
    - the 24h hand is quite interesting (good mental training) and the second time zone on the bezel might come in handy

    - points:
    - not particularly intricate; the watch face is plastic (and shows it on closer inspection)
    - hands are bit crude; dipped in paint rather than painted
    - screw down crown difficult to screw in again ...that might not last too long

    interesting factoid
    - this is an automatic that also hand-winds

    overall verdict

    I like it!
For the money it's on the money. Paid 239 Euro and think that I got my moneys' worth ...a utilitarian watch with presence that's for the wrist, not the cabinet.

The Zeiteisen is starting to impress.

I first set time and date pretty much exactly 48 hours ago. At that point it was 37 seconds ahead of time.is.

Since then I have worn it during the day and left it dial up beside the bed during the night.

Today, it is 38 seconds ahead of time.is

(the Orient loses about 10 seconds a day on average)

Just a quick update on this.
As I had to adjust the date today (so that it will show 1 tomorrow instead of 29) I also adjusted the time ...by one minute. One minute gain in one week, that's precise enough for me :D *

Further, I'm glad to disappoint you all ...the collecting bug has been quashed for the foreseeable future :D.
I just love this watch, it's 110% me, I want to wear it all the time, the thought of banishing it into a drawer is unthinkable.

Already feeling sorry for the poor little Orient in its box, couldn't do it to the Zeiteisen.

    *EDIT
Actually, I lie ...I adjusted it by 20 odd seconds ...I just remembered it was already 30 odd seconds fast when I first woke it.
