SD card wiped on Wildfire - Help

I bought me and the missus a HTC Wildfire each 6 months ago.
Mine has been perfect but hers has had loads of problems and eventually it was sent back to HTC and they gave us a brand new one 2 weeks ago.

Yesterday her SD card lost everything for no reason, all her photo's are gone and she is broken hearted. We are not technically minded so we never backed it up.

My question is can we get the pictures back or are they completly gone?

    Cheers for any advice

You should be able to recover most of the files if you haven't messed with the card too much since... there are lots of SD card file recovery tools out there.

I don't have personal experience with any of the tools, so I'm loathe to give a personal recommendation... but as an idea of what's out there, for the Mac, you can try things like this, and for the PC, this. There are some non-free options out there too, but most of them have a trial mode that let you see which files they will recover, but won't let you recover them until you've paid for it.

Most important thing is that you don't try and load/save anything to the SD card in the meantime before you've attempted to recover anything.

(This is probably the "that was close" experience that most of us have had at some point that persuades us to learn how to back up our important files -- you don't need to use any of the fancy/technical tools out there to do it, it can be as simple as dragging and dropping a folder from one window to another on your PC.)
