    I'm struggling to answer this question and would really appreciate any help!


    (b) given a series of f(x)
    i) derive first five terms for ex
    ii) hence, first five terms for e-x
    iii) ignoring x4 and higher powers of x, use Maclaurin series for ex to find an approx. value of root x.

    There's a few things there that seem very odd.
    Can you check the exact text of the question again, and correct if necessary.
    In particular, (1) the stem of the question doesn't appear to be related to the parts, and (2) the third part doesn't make a whole lot of sense, for two reasons: using a series for e^x would be a very strange way to try to get a series for root(x), and you can't get an "approx. value" of root(x) without having a value of x, (i.e., a number whose root you are trying to approximate).
