Nolan to helm Howard Hughes Biopic?

Christopher Nolan is reportedly planning to direct a Howard Hughes biopic once The Dark Knight Rises wraps, industry insiders have speculated.

Vulture claims that the Inception helmer is aiming to shoot an adaptation of Michael Drosnin's biography Citzien Hughes: The Power, The Money And The Madness in 2012.

Nolan originally began developing the project prior to his work on the Batman reboots, but it was shelved to make way for Martin Scorcese's 2004 drama The Aviator, also based on the life of the eccentric entrepreneur.

Sources claim that Nolan's film will have a different tone to Scorcese's Oscar winner, focusing instead "on the freakier decades of Hughes remarkably secretive and OCD-addled life".

Nolan is said to be hoping that the creative differences, coupled with a proposed 2014 release date - a decade after The Aviator hit cinemas - will avoid unwanted confusion between the films.

It is not yet known whether any studios are interested in greenlighting the project.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Nolan views the script he wrote for this project as his pride and joy. Also, I think Jim Carey was originally linked to the role of Howard Hughes. I think this film could work in the sense that it would be potentially going down a completely different path in comparison to 2004's The Aviator.

Jim Carrey can be an absolutely wonderful actor (see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Majestic) so I'd be interested to see just what Nolan can do with him, if he does get the part.

Could be interesting, I loved The Aviator though, its one of the most underrated movies of DiCaprios career, he should have gotten the oscar for it

it would have to be completely differentiated to The Aviator to be in anyway viable imo.

It is a bit too soon for another biopic of Hughes after 2004's The Aviator but I would be curious to see what Nolan would do

I could see Carrey as Hughes. Hughes has enough material in his life for a half dozen biopics so I'm not too worried about overlap either.

As to the Aviator (maybe it's the subject matter) but it's my 2nd fav Scorcese movie after Taxi Driver.

I thought The Aviator was a terrible film, a real missed opportunity. If this can make up for it, let Nolan at it.
