Win 7 Upgrade Edition Install on a blank SSD

Ive ordered a solid state drive which I plan to install Windows 7 on. Problem is the version of the OS I have is the upgrade edition. I originally used this to upgrade from Vista. It was a simple process completed from within Vista.

Question is, will the upgrade edition give me grief if I try to install it on a clean drive with no older version. If so, would it be possible to just connect up the SSD as a second hard drive and then install Win 7 onto it from within my current installation?
