A festival of Ireland 2015

A festival of Ireland for 2015 , is what I am proposing , so that this great nation and country can celebrate it's achievement's and contribution's to culture , science , industry etc at home and world wide.
I know the country is at a low ebb at the moment , but I know without a shadow of a doubt , that we as a nation will emerge from our present trouble's and turmoil , stronger , wiser and fortified for any and all challenge's , that the year's that beckon ahead hold for us as a nation.
It is with this in mind and the hope for a brighter future and cognizant of the struggle's our nation has over come in the past and will again in the future, that I propose a national year long festival , in 2015, along the line's of a world's fair or a great exhibition.
The festival could include a gathering of all the Irish clan's and family's from home and abroad , as well as celebrating industry , technology , agriculture , marine , our waterway's and fishing , literature + art's , folklore , sport , music etc and everything that make us Irish and our country , such a great place to live , even though we moan ,like there's no tomorrow about it.
With 4 year's to plan such an event , I believe we as a nation could organize a truly spectacular national and world event, that would not be easily forgotten.
It would also serve as a national target , or a national therapy / rehabilitation , that once achieved , would allow us as a nation to once again hold our head's high and embrace the world , certain in the knowledge , that we as a nation can prevail over any obstacle or challenge that world event's or life throw's at us , - so what do you think ? .

I think you should have a border poll too, as a timely reminder that we dont have the type of republic envisioned by its founders, its principles laid out in the proclamation where cast aside, we need to finally build a country based on them.

20-30 million I would imagine. Not that much considering we've been in business for one hundred years.

    1916 No thanks

You do realise that 1916 in particular was a disasterous year for all the people of this island (North & South), with literally ten's of thousands of Irish men being slaughtered on an industrial scale in the Great War, (plus a couple of hundred dead back home) caught up in the easter rising), add to that Dublin being raized to the ground & in ruins!

Not much to celibrate really :(
I don't think he meant the Great war. I think he meant celebrating 1916. The Unionist community holds memorials every year for the Somme.

A festival to 'Celibrate' 1916 in 2016, Hmm, I don't think so
Why? because when you think about all the death that year, it wasn't really a great year to 'Celibrate' (in my opinion), certainly commerating the dead of the Great War & the rising is to be considered in 2016, but celibrating 1916? I'm not too sure about that.

I wouldn't be in favour of 'celebrating' 2016 as more than likely the country will still be divided, which is the very reason we don't currently have an independence day, but instead just commemorate the Easter Rising every year. The closest we'll ever have to a national celebration is St. Patrick's Day, and that'll remain the case until partition is removed, and only then can we 'celebrate' our independence.

I guess its worth acknowledging alright, but isnt it not a bit of stab in the back for all the nationalists in the north that felt left behind?

With hindsight you are probably all right , I should not have used the word celebration in relation to 1916 and 2016 as it's commemorative centennial year.
I was thinking 100 yr's , easter , republic etc , however I still think a festival of Ireland is a good idea (maybe 2015 instead)and would provide a huge lift to the country , as well as a boost to national esteem , economy , tourism , culture etc , I will edit original post to this effect , and as all way's am open to idea's suggestion's etc thank's.

2016 - Irelands birthday - 100 years old. I think it will be a great idea to celebrate it. We'll all be dead when Ireland will be 200 years old. Lets not waste this opportunity to celebrate being a century old.

Ireland was here before 1916 you know!

Those who wish to celibrate the break away from the Union & the beginning of partition, should maybe look at 2021 or 2022? and if you want to celibrate the Republic of Ireland act, maybe 2048?

Can you not move the year, you know like how Guinness moves Arthurs Day? 2016 clashes with the Olympics in Rio.
