Strange looking stone.

    Found this the other day while walking on the beach right in at the dunes so maybe it was washed in but who knows.

    Curious look about it. Looks to have a honeycombed pattern on it.

    All I can say is, its seems to be made from granite because of the sparkles when held at certain angles to the light.

    done a bit more research just now

    it's actually fossilized coral
    you can tell by the 5 sided hexagons :D
    whereas a beehive would have 6 sided hexagons :D

    Wow! Thanks a mill for that.
    Really interesting.
    Some of honeycombing has six sides but there you go.
    It being coral would make a lot more sense.

    Maybe this should be moved to the paleontology forum if thats the case.
    Seen as its now extinct etc.

    I know I'm a bit anal here but:

    a 5 sided polygon is called a pentagon

    a 6 sided polygon is called a hexagon

    ;)
