Transferring from Ipad to laptop

I was recently forced to re-install my OS on my laptop. As a result all the stuff in my itunes is gone. I don't have it backed up. The apps aren't an issue since they are free/paid for.

Neither is the music as it's backed up on another drive.

The issue is some PDFs that I had, a lot of it work related that I don't have back-ups for. So how do I go about getting these from the ipad to my pc without itunes wiping it out?

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere.

Open iTunes select the iPad from the list on the left then right click and it should say back up iPad hit yes. There ya go!

iOS device backups are encrypted and no way of getting individual files out of it. is there a way of emailing pdf's from ibooks to yourself? I can't check anymore as I'm not on a iOS device anymore.

Creamy is right. The issue is of syncing. But I did find a program, imacsoft to pc. It does the job, tried the demo, pay version is 19$.
