    Hi all,

Just a quick bit of advice needed, of anybody could help me out it would really be appreciated!

We bought our house recently, but won't be getting married until next year.

We received two documents from our solicitor via post, to be signed by a commissioner of oaths or a trainee solicitor, basically stating our house isn't a family home as we are not married.

If anyone could tell us where to go to get this done and roughly how much it will cost!

    Thank you!

What documents are these? I've just bought a house with my fiancee and we didn't have to sign anything like that as it is out primary residence and since we're a cohabiting couple it is as such our family home.

It's so the bank or financial institution to which your house is mortgage to doesn't have to worry about getting the written consent of both spouses under the family home protection act 1976 for creating the mortgage.

It's a statutory declaration, I think the standard fee for getting it sworn is about €10. You can pop into any solicitor to do it, if someone wants to charge you more you can try somewhere else.

Unless you were cash buyers, who bought the property without a mortgage, then you would have signed a similar Statutory Declaration to the OP. The difference probably is that your solicitor had you sign the appropriate Declarations at the same time you signed the acceptance of your loan offer and other documentation.
