Title pretty much says it all.

So whats your honest view of people in life?
Do you believe people are generally good? or that people think about themselves when it comes down to it.

    good. bad. grey.

You, or anyone else are not going to meet 7 billion people in life.
    Can you repeat the question?

this is a question of yours, as well as everyone elses, perception of people you meet. (and not the 7 billion people Keithm89 will meet in his life :pac:) this is about your thoughts of people. what you believe. what you think :) if you get me :)

I am good, you are grey, they are bad.

    It's simple!

I have found that most people in life are liars, cheats and thieves and are generally mean.
There's only a handful of good apples in the box.

Nice metaphor if I may say so

There are plenty of greys, but the majority are black/whiite. Black tend to be the pessimists, forecasting doom or picking holes in the happiness of others ( I fall into this category admittedly). Whites are the ones who will keep aa smile on thei face while their world crumbles around them. It would be a pretty dull existance if we were all the same.

I think that the majority of people I know are essentially good.. there's very few people I can think of that are truly despicable or malicious. I don't know many people who are completely selfless however, but I do know a few. Most people I know succumb to the universal human flaw of occasional selfishness, usually to maintain or increase their social standing ultimately, but I think they are essentially good. I guess it's a grey area, but I'd lean towards good, and I believe evilness/ maliciousness is mostly thrust upon people by their experiences growing up.

Im not sure how to take that one to be honest.

Im a fairly optimistic person myself and would chat to anyone about anything. There are however very doom/gloom pessimistic people who you would never get a smile from.

I tend to distance myself from very pessimistic people; every gas their ups and downs but you can tell by looking the people who always were and always will be negative. It's just like a characteristic trait.

To be honest I'd say its a very 50/50 division.

I believe that, for the most part, people are inherently selfish people only looking out for their own self-interests.

That's natural and acceptable- survival of the fittest and all that.

Some people do this in more considerate ways than others. However, those who are less considerate and encroach upon other peoples business or opportunities whilst furthering their own self-interests are pricks and should be considered bad.

From experience, its usually a 50/50 split between the two.

C'est la vie.. Now.. Wheres my tea?

Help the weak but always look out for numero uno before all else.....pretty simple (but selfish) mantra to live by.

It may help to understand human affairs to be clear that most of the great triumphs and tragedies of history are caused, not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, but by people being fundamentally people.

People range from the absolute depths of evil to the levels of kindness seen in the care bears. it's not like serial killers are simply graded as 'bad'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,571 ✭✭✭Aoifey!

    Grey.

Some people lean towards the good. Some lean towards the bad. Although I would not say a person is completely good or bad. People are products of the society they grew up in, they have personal choice and free will but their upbringing will have a major role - be that good or bad.

It's all subjective really. Some of the biggest lunatics and nutjobs on the planet are convinced that they are right, whereas they will consider what is often just simple logical truth and facts to be "bad" and untruthful. So I am going to say that goodness should be considered a grey area, because it is subjective and definitions of what is good and bad can be abused and used toward one’s own end – and in particular, against those they don’t agree with.

    Agree.
    But Aoifey,
Something I guess I, and surely everyone else, struggle with is say societies 'reception' of "good and bad" - like, someone does a bad turn on you. A legit / 100% them looking out for their own interests and not caring about you and thus hurting you. Which would make them a p*ick being on the recieving end. But another can say "I think they are alright".

The ultimate question is that a 'grey' area... or the true person coming out? If you get me,

Personally Dilbert, I think everyone justifies their actions. Weather they be good or especially bad. I've even seen people justify their actions to their conscience of all things. Doing a bad act and reasoning with themselves to how it wasnt as bad / other people would do the same / etc.

Well it would depend on the exact situation so it really is hard to say in general. But as an action being seen as good or bad is purely based on what a person perceives as good and bad, it is hard to say that person is a "bad" person, just a person you do not get along with, if you know what I mean. Everyone is in some way looking out for themselves and trying to get forward in their own life, some people just don't notice that they hurt others in the process. Then again, there are others which know they are hurting others and just plain do not care.

    I hope that made sense.

Everybody has good and bad in them some just have better control over it than others, I don't think there's a set percentage it just depends on the person.
