Considering they have been in power for roughly 70 of the last 80 years...I think they will do alot better than the polls predict this year...and will be there or there abouts the election after this...:o and probably in government the election after that for another long long spell...

Does anyone see it any differently?

I think it might take 2 terms for them to get back in unless FG/Labour really screw things up and break up Government over some petty squabble. The pain of this recession, the IMF bailout and the banking debacle will not be quickly forgotten by many in this country.

It's FG/Lab's election to lose in the General Election after this.

They might be out for twenty years if it takes us twenty years to clean up after them.

I would hope that FF will be out for the next 10 years. But the electorate is frequently masochistic and self-harming, and it would not surprise me if FF sneak in again in 2016.

Especially when you consider our nearest neighbours; where the Labour Party is now on the ascendancy again with voters due to Tory/Lib Dem policies to avoid an "Ireland"

I will bet €1m that they will pull whatever scandals out of their pockets to ensure that they scrape back into power in time for 2016.

FG/Lab are going to have to guide Ireland through the worst crisis in living memory I think - Ireland are probably going to default during their term unless they really get the answers and provide a miracle...

I dunno if they'll do so bad that they'll not get back in next term but in the next election I think FG/Lab's vote will be well down but should be able to still form a coalition..

after this coaltion is broken I see FF returning as most people will start associating FG/Lab with the complete and utter crash of Ireland...

However if FG/Lab keep Ireland afloat somehow without too many extra job losses this could actually be the end for FF... if FF remain low in the next election I see FF loosing their position of power and will only ever return to government as a coalition partner...

sounds like a good bet, fully expect there to be at least 1 election before 2016 due to a FG/LAB breakdown

Hmm.. FF have not been in power for only 5 months of my life (technically)
I have a bad feeling they'll be back pretty soon

I fear you are right , I can't see this poisionous political Dynasty not being able to regroup and manage to get back on their comfortable bandwagon using any means at their disposal

They might disband and get no new members as their name will be affiliated with this disaster.and they will die off and Fianna fail will be written into history books as the biggest criminals of the political history.:D

The interesting thing is if FG did end up in a single party government supported by independents (or maybe even by themselves) then Labour and Gilmore would be the main opposition party. So FF could be the 2nd opposition party (and if transfers are bad enough) possibly even the third opposition party.

I'd love to see the party of government reduced to being the 5th biggest bloc in the Dail, behind FG, Lab, Inds and SF.

A lot of "if's" there, but maybe its possible after February 25th...

I was told today (granted by a FF supporter) that they could be back in Government within a year.:(

We're safe, so - FF never keep their pre-election promises, and at this stage I wouldn't believe a word that an FF supporter said!

Ive said this a few times on boards. Bertie Ahern was extremely negligent in the running of the country. Something that could help ireland is to bring back execution, hang ahern and sell tickets to the world. We could invite all the irish who are abroad back for the hanging event. Its probably the only way we can get through this mess. I probably wont be so lucky for it to happen though.

Another option - we could chase the Vatican for compesation for all the years of the churches abuse.

They will hopefully disband because the FF brand is so closely linked to dishonesty

Hate to say it, but I can see FF back in after the next government fails. And fail it will, because of the mess it is left with to sort out. People will forget and vote the old guard back.

It is interesting to note that in the UK they are jailing MPs who have abused their expenses. We reward damages to the likes of Ivor Callaly for the same infraction.

As long as our laws allow corrupt criminals(which is how I see our last gov) to get away with blatant raping of the state and more importantly as long as we allow it, then that is what we deserve.

As long as we allow it....So how can we - the people - change it?
