Mc Donalds price increases across the board.

Dose anyone else notice the increase of Mc Donalds breakfasts, meals and burgers across the board recently?

Some branches are even charging an extra 60c for a speciality coffee instead of a fizzy drink.

I am getting less change out of a tenner when I go into this place now than I did a few months ago for the same thing. Time to find an alternative. :p

Prices of everything are going up. Any McDonalds is still the cheapest.

Best of luck in your search tho.

Demand for fastfood in a recession tends to increase, not decrease as it's still cheaper than alternative restaurants which become prohibitivly expensive for many...if demand increases, so does price.

The McDonald franchise holder in Iceland decided to do something about it back in 2009:
    McDonald's Closes in Iceland.
With the collapse of the Icelandic currency, the krona, McDonald’s licence holder Lyst has decided to shut down the three McDonald’s restaurants in Iceland and reopen them as Metro.
The reason for McDonald’s closing is that costs doubled over the past year and even though sales have never been better the margin is so low that they feel they cannot sustain the business. A statement sent out by Lyst today said prices would need to go up by some 20 percent for McDonald’s to survive.
“The reason for us closing McDonald’s is the difficult economy and the collapse of the Icelandic krona,” Jon Gardar Ogmundsson, the owner of Lyst, told MBL.is.
McDonald’s will be replaced by a new Icelandic brand, Metro owned and operated by Lyst and will serve similar products as McDonald’s did before. The primary difference will be that Metro will use more local products, including bread, meat and vegetables; whereas McDonald’s currently forces Lyst to import the goods.

You cannot compare Mc Donalds to alternative resturaunts, its like comparing Ryanair to Quantas. I take Mc D'd as a filler or snack bar and wouldn't dream of using it for pig out.

A lot of people are now making their own sandwiches and cooking lunches than go to these places. The only fast food places that seem to offer the best value are the pizza chains.

Third tip. Check the back of your receipts when shopping. There's usually a voucher for a Big Mac meal (without drink) for €3.80. Sometimes they have voucher packs near the shop too (I know in Artaine they have some vouchers near the tills).

At €3.80 it's worth it. Anything more and it's not really. I know in Swords a Big Mac meal is €6.40. If you go to GBK or even Eddie Rockets in Swords you can get a proper big burger and much bigger chips and a coke for a tenner. I know it's €3.60 more but you're full after it.

pay a couple quid extra and you'd get all you can eat in Pizza Hut

I remember when twisty fries were 1 euro, then one day the price doubled for no reason. There's no value in mcdonalds anymore, I find a lot of chippers and pizza places do good deals nowadays.

I do like a McDonalds from time to time but it's hard to justify it when I can get the following at almost the same price as a regular meal from McDonalds:

    Chinese

Hai Linn on Capel Street in Dublin have a starter and main course with a drink for €9.90.

    Italian

Ciao Bella Roma on Parliment Street have a starter, pizza or pasta and a glass of house wine for €8.90.

Both are in and around the price of a regular meal from McDonalds. The Italian if you go for the pizza is particuarly tasty and filling. At those prices it really is hard to justify paying out for McDonalds. Plus you get to sit in a relatively relaxing enviornment.

I'll be eaten alive (:pac:) for this but:

I really, really love McDonalds food. I don't care how much the alternatives cost, I wouldn't eat them anyway. Four Star pizza do nice pizzas, but fast food in general is muck. I don't like pizzas anyway, really. I know hoe detrimental McDonalds is to one's health, but it's tasty as fook. It's a treat at the end of the day.

It is pricey in Ireland though! cheaper abroad.

I would agree, for the price of a Big Mac Meal you would get a batter burger and Chips along with a coke in my local chipper. A Fish and Chips would be a Euro or two extra but at least it will last you most of the day / evening and the spuds are real. :)

The only things I get in McDonalds are the coffee and the odd time I splurge on a mcflurry.
I find it is too expensive for "food" that has basically the same nutritional value as cardboard and is so laden with salt it leaves you dehydrated within a few hours.
