Job Search / FAS

Hi, I'm currently looking for a job. I haven't worked in over a year. I was made redundant in December 2009. I got a job April last year & it only lasted a week I was fired because they thought I was too junior for the role :( I've gone to a few interviews since then but I wasn't successful. Sometimes I feel like giving up.

I've also been suffering from depression, and have developed a kind of phone anxiety. When my phone rings I panic and whenever I answer I
sound all highpitched and weird (lol) So I don't usually answer it. I know this isnt helping my job search.

Anyway, I've a couple years office/admin experience. But I'm not sure I want to do that anymore. I can't do fast food or retail because I'm too shy& anxious. Do you think FAS could help me? Do they set up interviews for you or give you advice? I'm 25 years old this is pathetic :/

    Please help!

    Hi catdog,

Sorry to hear that you are finding job searching so difficult. Fas might not be the organisation that you need. Have you heard of supported employment. They would help you in setting up interviews etc., but you do need to get a referral from your local Fas or LES office. They help people who are finding it difficult to get back to work due to a disability. I'm not sure if this covers depression, but i think this would be your best bet.

Good luck with your job searching

    Hi Cat_dog.
Enquire with FAS - or maybe the Citizens Information? - to see if there is anyone who can help you with interview training. The more prepared you are, the more it usually helps your confidence. Like you, I recently got a job, and was put on temporary lay off about 3 weeks later. It is the most soul-destroying thing imaginable, and I understand so well how you're feeling. To be honest, you're only human to be feeling very, very down about it - I'm in a similar place.
