Had our new Independant TD,Mattie Mc Grath at the door a while ago.
Asked him a few questions in relation to his "abstaining habit" in the Dail and who he will support if re-elected as an Independant.
Got the usual fob off answers !!

What maddens me though is that his whole entourage currently belongs to the Fianna Fail Cumann( I know most of them).
Will they be asked to leave the Cumann,or worse will Mattie do another U turn and revert back to FF ?
Definitely FF by another name !!:confused:

Well if Mattie was running FF this time round he was not going to get any vote from me, but as an independent maybe.

McGrath in basically Independent FF and will probably take the FF whip after the election and then will eventually rejoin the party. This has happened many times before, so don't be fooled.

Mattie is about as Independant as Mehole Martin !!
He'll take the whip again "in the national interest" and cosy up in the Dail bar with all the survivors from his party, mark my words.
    The hat suits him(cowboy hat)

Don't be fooled,an independent vote for him is not a vote for an Independant !!!

Agree with that, and there are more like him.

Vizzy, If you meet Mattie McGrath again, try ask him some constructive questions. These type of comments are getting boring. I think he made the right choice by leaving FF and I know he didn't make the decision lightly. But with the likes of you and your attitude, he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. And even if he wanted, he wouldn't be accepted back into FF and thank god for that. At least now he'll be able to have a voice in the Dail. FF were clearly against him from day one so he's well off without them. He's definitely getting my vote now he's independant. And as for his 'whole entourage', of course most of them belong to the Fianna Fail Cumann or at least they did. Mattie was born and breed FF and so were many of his family and friends and therefore would have all been in the Cumann. But FF left Mattie down, left his 'entourage' down, left this grand little country down so god forbid they should change our alliance.

Sorry I did't get back to you earlier but I was entertaining the bould Mattie in a local hostlry last night.Thought that canvassing was not supposed to take place after 9 pm !!
I did ask him plenty of constructive questions when I met him at the door but just got the usual glib answers.
If you believe that Mattie will remain truly independant after the election, then vote for him and the best of luck to him.
My only distrust for the man is that he claims that he will do one thing and then does the opposite(stag hunting ban, finance bill) and for that reason he will not get a vote.
Don't get me wrong,he has done plenty of good with his "parish pump" type of politics but personally I believe that he should be concentrating on the bigger picture and allowing local public representatives look after the potholes and Mrs Murphy's medical card !!

That's what's bothering me, he voted with FF on something with certain conditions attached, then FF went back on their word and he was like a baby throwing his toys out of the pram, making statements to papers and local radio. Then he voted on one thing electronically and abstained in the walk through vote, so he basically just abstained for reasons best known to himself. I would rather he vote one way or another for the right reasons.

I added Mattie McGrath as a friend on Facebook so that I could ask him a question.

He accepted my friendship request and I posed the following question to him:
Hi Mattie. I'd like to know if you still stand by your comment that a few alcoholic drinks can help some people to concentrate whilst driving. Also, I'd like to know what you feel you have to offer the country if you are elected as an independent.

    Thanks.

Well whaddaya know, I've been defriended by Mattie. I suspected all the comments on his page were a tad sycophantic and Killinascully-esque. It seems he's deleting all posts from people who ask searching questions. Absolutely pathetic. What an a-hole.

In contrast, Tom Hayes and Michael McGrath are both dealing with criticisms and difficult questions in a courteous and professional manner.
