Aggggh MK4 Polo 2005 Problem!

    Hi Guys,
I know I havent been on boards.ie for ages!

    Car: Vlks Polo MK4, 2005, 1.2l

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this, it has already stumped two indy mechanics I know.

My car started acting up a little about 3 months ago, occasionally cutting out at junctions, exhaust light popping on (the Yellow one with three "pipes").

About three weeks ago, I took it to a garage, no immediate concerns, bring it back at some point, then last week it cut out, on the M50, during a gear change. On the way to the mechanic, it cut out at traffic lights, and when I tried to start it up again, it kind of revved and chugged along. Eventually I stopped, and started it again and got it there. The mech replaced the Sparks and Coils - this stopped the totally dodgy engine cut outs at speed, but it still is at the cut out / chug issue, at least once every 50km.

The car is also having issues with speakers, windows jamming and occasional problems with hill acceleration.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks In Advance,
    MP

    blocked/ damaged cat? oxygen sensor?

did the garages scan the car for fault codes?

    Hi andyseadog

Thanks for getting back to me. The garage said it has 2 x Misfiring Cylinder codes, but suspected these were due to Coils, Sparks, etc.

I will bring it back, but I'd like to know if anyone has any experience, because the garage isn't dedicated Vlks, but I have no money at the mo so doubt I could afford dealer prices (and probable greater expertise).

what part of the world are you in?

there may be a boardsie near by that could scan your car

Not a car I've worked on, but I'd get it scanned using Vag Com. Some Polo's have been known to have misfire codes and these are caused by burnt valves, but that may not be the root cause of your issue. If a code scan draws a blank, ask your garage to perform an EGR actuation test and make sure it is behaving properly. Duff EGR's can cause weird driving faults.

    Hi shamwari,

Will do, do you think it could be related to the power supply / fuses, given the other electrical faults... or are these just another days headache?

There was some mention of an issue with the crank shaft with a friend of mine, but who knows!

Either way, I'll post back once I get an answer, probably end of next week, but I have a few points to go on now.

    Cheers

I'd say the likelihood is that the driving faults (cutting out etc) are in no way connected with your speaker and window issues. Fuses tend to cause constant rather than intermittent issues.

    Thanks :(

Well priorities first, the car should be able to run, I can afford to leave the beats for a while!

Finally got the problem sorted after ages of putting it off.

Ended up being a split Cylinder head and a cracked engine block - kinda was a massive fail by Volkswagen IMO, but all well now!

    EXCEPT:
Now my right electric window and door speaker is acting up :(
