The oddest sight this morning just as I passed the Kippure Car Park southbound towards Sallygap.

Renault Kangoo, boot open with a guy sitting in the back filming a cyclist following them, no more than 3-4 feet behind the van.

Big professional looking camera and lighting rig too.

Anyone know what that was about?

Someone is filming a guy on a bike for some sort of programme/ad/doco. What is so incredibly odd about that?

    did I use "incredibly" anywhere?

And it is odd to see stuff like that on the road, or do you see people hanging out the back of vans filming things every day?

Probably someone with a few quid bought the expensive bike and lycra gear but still wasn't getting that TDF feeling.

Dunno if it's related, but there were a hell of a lot of cars parked at Kippure - was there some kind of event on? I've only been past about a dozen times but never seen that many parked there. Plus after we'd gone up, on our way back we must have had 60+ cyclists pass us going the other way from Kippure back to the viewing point. I guess it could just be today being one of the first nice weekends of the year, but it was basically a constant stream and definitely made me think there was something on.

Well if he waited for me a couple of hours later, he could have made a comedy movie for free...."Numb and number", perhaps....it was windy up there today!

I suspect the Captain's film is finally going into production ...

I passed him too. At first I though it was some guy motor pacing but then spotted the reflector. He seemed to be riding an 80's road bike but I only got a glimpse at it.

All the cars at Kippure were guys with dogs. Dunno why they were there but I think it was unrelated.

Oddly, I saw a couple of plain-clothes gardai both wearing stab-proof Garda vests standing in the middle of the road at Glencree (junction of the road from Sallygap and the road to Enniskerry) yesterday at around 13h00. They seemed to just be engaged in conversation, with their unmarked car parked at the side of the road with the engine running.

They paid no attention to me whatsoever as I cycled past. Not even a supportive "G'wan, keep it up" from them. Nothin'. I suspect they were not there to cheer on random cyclists :(

Did the fella look like a pro?

If I was cycling I would have gone out of my way to challenge him into a hill. If I lost, so what, but if he followed and got dropped, that would be just too funny.

Suppose they would have to edit that out...

I presume they're shooters. You see groups of guys with cars and dogs up the mountains regularly. I can't think of anything else they'd be doing.

That was me taking the photographs on Saturday. Doing some tests for a project I want to do, I will post them shortly for feedback. The turned out great. Hope to be out there shooting again this weekend and maybe even some cycling...

The guy I was photographing Cycling Stylist Extraordinaire just got a new bike yesterday, I'm sure he'd except a challenge of a hill...

    Thanks for that Conor,
I'll never be able to cycle near hills again for fear of being challenged out of it. That said, I like the odd challenge every now and again. And I'm sure the bike would only love the opportunity.
Oh yea, I'm the fella that was chasing the van through the sally gap last weekend.
