Could I end up in trouble over my TV license ...?

This is only a very small issue, but I thought I'd ask anyways as I'm a bit worried about it.

Last summer, I bought a new TV for the apartment I was renting. Literally the day I bought it, the TV license inspector happened to call round! Obviously I hadn't gotten a license yet, but I explained I'd only just bought the TV, and he said that was grand and to get it sorted soon. I got a letter then the following week telling me to get it. As I was tight for cash, I called into the TV license office, and the woman there said it was OK if I didn't pay it straight away but to pay it in the next two months (by the end of October), and I think I got a letter saying this.

Anyways - I know this is really bad - but I honestly completely forgot all about it. :o

Checked my post today, and there was a note saying that a registered letter had arrived for me and that I had to collect it from the depot in the next three days, after which it would be returned to sender. I've racked my brains, and I cannot think of anything that it could be, apart from something to do with the TV license. I use a different address, my home address, for pretty much everything.

I'm getting really nervous about this. Is the registered letter likely to be a warning, or an actual summons to court?

Also, I'm moving home in the next few weeks (and my parents have a TV license!) What happens if I don't pay it? Could I end up with a criminal record or something over this without even knowing it?

    Thanks for any advice.

if you meter had one the letter is addressed to the occupier who nothing can happen to. You'll be grand. The occupier can't be taken as he is not an offical person.
If you are not happy with this move the tv out and ask them to come inspect the place.

I gave the inspector my name when he called round last summer. :o The summons - if that's what the letter was - would be addressed to me.

I can't help but think that the best option would be to do nothing. As I said, I'm moving out soon. If I never receive or sign for the summons, can anything be done to me?

Just pay it by monthly direct debit so you are covered.

If you dont get the summons nothing can happen to you. I think with parking tickets they are stricter where they can call the local guard station. Ive heard of that happenning but not the tv license.
