Didnt know where to ask this, and it doesn't deserve its own thread, so figured random questions about golf could be answered in here.

My question, how does an Open 4 Person Team work?

Reason i ask, there's one on my course in March, and i've 2 friends both off 2. Im only new to game,November, with a 21 Handicap, and am not sure how it works, and would like to know whether it'd be worth asking them to play?

Another Q, If i wanted to start getting my Handicap down now,is there singles? or Do i wait til march or whatever?

    Thanks

Open 4 person team even is like a classic... 4 people playing together as a team... the 'open' bit mean that it's open to visitors.
Scoring for these can vary a little but usually it's the 2 best scores from the 4 to count on each hole... There might be all scores to count on the last or something but you'll be told on the day.
By all means ask your friends... doubt they will be playing to win because usually you need an insane score in that type of format. Sometimes that's down to good 'dove-tailing' but also bear in mind that the team are marking their own card so there's that aspect to it. Think of it as a fun, social game.

Your handicap will only start changing when you play qualifying competitions. On parkland courses, this will be later in the season (whenever winter rules finishes) so get used to competing in the non-qualifying competitions for now (or maybe qualifying comps @ links courses?).

I've got cheapo HiTec golf shoes, mostly white.
Is there a special white "polish" to bring them up clean?I clean them with water and soap after every round or is it time to invest?
