    Hi everyone.

With the recent Eircom Charge increases I am able to cancel my contract. When I first signed up to them Imagine called to the door about 2 months later telling me they are available in my area.

It will have to be an External Install if I get it, but if it is faster then Eircom I wouldn't care. So has anyone got this External Signal Booster from Imagine and how is the service?

I think the only other option in my Area jusy outside Fermoy Co. Cork is Vodafone, I rather pay more and stay with Eircom then move to vodafone.

Avoid Imagine Wimax like it was the plague. I am with them and I have no service yet again for over the 20th downtime and its a Saturday so no tech support at weekends. See my website www.unitedpeople.ie (consumer section) for the many, many problems I have had alone.

Posting this via phone as I had to use phone to log in to see if anyone else is having similar problem right now? Will update my Twitter app on my site as the day progresses. Have external install too by the way. Down over four hours now (time 11.40am) for what is now over the twenth serious breakdown since June 2010.

UPDATE: 12.15pm Imagine Wimax Broadband finally up and running again - how long for it it stay connected, is another question.
Have to update my list on Unitedpeople site of current long line of breakages and desperate speeds.

    Update 15th Feb 2011:

Internet connection yet again down from 11.30am to 12.23pm Tried ringing Wimax (after three trys from a mobile and home phone and getting disconnected and then listening to half an hour of elevator "waiting" music) when eventaully got talking to them, discovered that the last lot they sent out to physically look at my problem, had actually robbed my ethernet cable for connecting a testing laptop to their "Thomson" modem box!

If its not one bloody problem with this crowd, its another! Between tech problems, disconnections and virtually no speeds, I've now rang Wimax fourty (plus) times since June 2010 -and thats WHEN you can get them - NO SERVICE AT WEEKENDS OF ANY DESCRIPTION

...But they DO tell you (via recorded message) to email them if you have broadband problems! Go figure!!!

I'd agree. Don't go near this lot. The wimax they provide is dreadful. They throttle torrents. I recently got a mail off them saying they were giving me a free upgrade to 10mbs. Ha ha!!! The service got worse in fact. The most I ever get off it was 4mbps. THe torrent throttling really done my head in though. They also over charged me for the first bill by double. I had to bring it to their attention and it took me 2 weeks to get the money back off them.

Contract is up at the end of the month.

Vodafone would give you a trial period on their fixed line of around two weeks.

I think their 8mb with 120 gb allowance is 48 euro all in.

Imagines 7 mb (4 in reality) is 42 euro. They charge you 4 for internet security that doesnt work.

    Their product is a farce.

    STAY AWAY.

Smelly Sock, so you have the external install for Imagine. I ask because I am just far enough outside the Eircom range for Broadband, so my current line is only capable os 3Mb/s even with NGB because of the distance from the exchange I will never go fast broadband, so I assume the same will apply for vodafone seen as it will be the same line and the same exchange.

With Imagine, if I could get the 4Mb/s that would be a huge increase from the current, average of about 800kbps on my 3Mb eircom package.

    Rgds

    hi Chris,

I wouldn't touch this lot at all. I am not getting anymore broadband in and feel that I can wait until a better option becomes available. Beware they will stress you out. You will not be able to download torrents most of the day as they throttle them to the point where you cant get any speeds.

    So,

Has anyone got anything good to say about Imagine, was talking to them again yesterday and was given the rough speeds I'd be capable of given my location.

From talking to Imagine the contention would be 6:1 compared to 48:1 with Eircom, I would be capable to UP TO 10Mps (the famous UP TP), with Eircom I cannot get even close to 3Mbps unless its the wee hours of the morning. It will cost approx. €20 a month less then Eircom.

I will have still have Free Calls etc...

So who here has had a positive experience with Imagine

    Chris,

In my opinion Imagine are more than likely being creative with the truth with regards to the kind of service you will be getting off them.

Stay well clear my friend. It just not worth 12 months of heartache and stress trying to deal with them.

Considering I have only been with them since June last year, I have logged at least 46 speed fault calls with their service and 21 to report total break down in service, someone out there has to be more lucky and get a decent service.
    (It sure is not me!)

So just be aware of what your jumping into and honestly, expect not to expect what they say you will get.

I can't stress enough how much I hate imagine and WiMax. On my '7 Mbps' connection I average 0.1Mbps down, and my upload just times out. They are promising the sun moon and stars and simply can't deliver. After about 6 months of ringing them every 2/3 days complaining they finally admitted that they just didn't have enough switches to handle the volume of traffic at the exchange and that they would be upgrading it in the future if I was just more patient! That was the last straw so I cancelled it, and then had to deal with the usual cancellation fees that I had no intention in paying. 6 more months passed and after them supposedly cancelling my account everything is still active and they are so incompetent that I'm not getting billed for it and they don't even realize it. I now have free 'internet' and calls and I'm convinced it'll stay like this forever but even 'free' is still too expensive. I'm still getting rid of it.

    Avoid like the plague!!!
