Returning to Ireland - Help!!

Ok, so I have lived outside of Ireland for 14 months, and am returning next week.

I lived in Canada and worked for about 6 of the 14 months I was away.

I worked full time for about 4 or 5 years before leaving over a year ago.

I am now returning, and I've never claimed the dole or anything off the Government, so I am clueless as to how I go about it or what I am entitled to. I'm 27 male and am planning on returning to college full-time in September and have sent applications to colleges.

    So, my question is:

ONE: How do I apply for the dole? (I will be living in south Dublin)
TWO: What kind of Dole payments will I be entitled to?
THREE: What do I need to give to the social welfare to claim my dole? (any documents on application)
FOUR: How long does it typically take to come into effect
FIVE: How much is the dole
SIX: How long can I claim if for
SEVEN: Am I entitled to any other benefits, such as medical card, rent allowance etc. (I will be renting off my family, so would I still qualify for rent allowance?)
EIGHT: When I'm back in college, will I be eligable for BTEA or the student Grant? And how much are both of them?
NINE: When on the dole, can I work? And if so, how many hours can I work and still get the dole payment? Also, if I get a grant or BTEA can I work also? And how many hours?

Sorry for all the questions, absolutely clueless about how to go about this and what I'm entitled to. Thanks very much for any information.

i know a little of what you will be entitled to but i must caution you any returning irish are being slapped with the "Habitual resisdency act" now regardless of what the act says and what has been agreed by the social welfare ie you will get supp welfare until it all comes through

the actual reality is there are people waiting 10-15 weeks before they see any payment.

You will need documentation to show you have returned to ireland. You will need documentation to prove you live here, a rental lease is not sufficent. You will need bills. All these take time to generate.

My advice to you is give yourself an hour and phone citizen information in ireland.

What i say above might be disputed but i guarantee you its happening because its me that gets to deal with these people in my area through charity work.

ONE: How do I apply for the dole? (I will be living in south Dublin)
Go to your local office - i.e. your nearest one. www.welfare.ie has a list of them all.
TWO: What kind of Dole payments will I be entitled to?
Depends on what you were doing in 2009 and 2008. Have a look at the FAQ thread on how to qualify for JSB.
THREE: What do I need to give to the social welfare to claim my dole? (any documents on application)
Proof of ID and proof of address firstly. They could ask for other documents.
FOUR: How long does it typically take to come into effect
    depends on your office
FIVE: How much is the dole
188 euro a week for JSB and JSA with nil means
SIX: How long can I claim if for
JSB is up to a year depending on your contributions, JSA has no limit
SEVEN: Am I entitled to any other benefits, such as medical card, rent allowance etc. (I will be renting off my family, so would I still qualify for rent allowance?)
probably wont get rent allowance, you probably would be entitled to a medical card if social welfare payment is your only income.
EIGHT: When I'm back in college, will I be eligable for BTEA or the student Grant? And how much are both of them?
When do you go back to college? what will you be doing in college? How do you know you will still be on social welfare when you are going back to college?
NINE: When on the dole, can I work? And if so, how many hours can I work and still get the dole payment? Also, if I get a grant or BTEA can I work also? And how many hours?
You can work at max 3 days a week. But your payment is reduced accordingly.

You need to be claim benefits for a year to be eligible for BTEA & there are other conditions to BTEA. You might not be eligible if you already have a degree.

No idea about the grant, but people who already did college can be disqualified from getting a grant.

I'd advise you to contact citizens information they are generally very good and can discuss info you might not like to share on the interweb

You are correct in mentioning Habitual Residency. However you must also be HRC (Habitual Residence Condition) to qualify for Supplementary Welfare (SWA).

Read the link below on HRC and the five conditions you must satisfy. Factor 2 is particularly important for those who have been absent from the state for a period of time.
