Why have delayed payment to banks till after the general election? Brian Lenihan has lied to us before and again and again so what is the motive of delayed payment?

To get the new incoming government on the hook for distasterous doings, entirely of FFs makings of course. Shoulder the blame on the new government, like what they are doing now blaming the nation for their cock ups - "we all partied".

Extremely toxic to the core FF are.

Correct, but this decision was ill-thought out and has backfired spectacularly.

Taking the pin out of the grenade and tossing it to the incoming Finance minister.

Exactly, you can nearly see Micheal Martin and Lenihan harping on about it in a few months
I fear longterm it may not backfire, unfortunately, people have memories all too short.

I don't think it's so much that memories are short - people will remember for a long time.

I think it is that FF know there is a big wedge of straying traditional FF voters out there just searching for, longing for, pleading for some tiny nugget or ray of sunshine that will let them revert to form.

Everything FF do and say now is aimed at damage limitation, at getting back the traditional FF voter who is thinking about straying from the fold. What sounds like nonsense to a rational voter sounds like a hook on which they can hang their renewed loyalty to other, and with every statement like this another few will get back in line and vote as they always did.

It's all about the party don't you know?

I can just hear the arguement down the line:
FF diehard: "They just gave €10 billion to the banks, it's a disgrace"
Bewildered other: "But FF would have done that too"
FF diehard: "You don't know that. How can you possibly know that? Things were beginning to get better when FF were voted out"

    pure politics

Lenihan has just paid out 750M on UNSECURED Anglo Bonds... Why?
The facts: On Monday, January 31st, Anglo Irish Bank are going to pay out on a maturing bond worth €750 million. (For reference, the total cut in this year’s welfare budget will be €873 million.) The investors who purchased this bond invested their money with Anglo on the 17th of January 2006. The bond is senior unsecured debt and is not covered by a state guarantee.

All the more reasons for the incoming government to bring in a license to vote or something.

I think one of FGs plans is for emigrate voting which would be a great way to keep FF out for good. All the people that are forced to leave wont forget the damage FF has done. The broken families that they have left behind wont forget.

I fear things are so bad that when the new government take over there will be an emergency budget in May where it will cause uproar. FF would be delighted with this.

A message to our new incoming overlords: get rid of joe duffy

Great idea. Many advanced countries allow it. It's quite interesting when you think about it - probably one of the reasons that Fianna Failures are so rampant in the country is that their cronies or their parents' cronies were pulling strings to get them jobs etc, while those outside the FFailure mafia had no choice but to emigrate.

as has been said, it is an attempted political "stroke" by Lyin' Brenihan, who I'm sure "wouldn't accept that"
