I know it was wrong, but when the cop pulled me over he told me they were having a good laugh at me and they found it very funny. Why would a cop say that if it’s so serious to talk on the phone while driving

    any thoughts?

Well at least ya know you were wrong.
Now go and buy yourself some sort of bluetooth device so your not holding you phone whilst attempting to drive a car.

This issue really bugs me I have to say especially now that these devices are dirt cheap.

As for the cops god only knows what they were at. They should be throwin the book at people for this not laughing. The amount of idiots I see on a daily basis using their phones whilst drivin is rediculous.

they had probably just reached their monthly quotas nd were delighted that this months quota bonus had come early and just in time to treat their wives/girlfriends to a fancy meal and a Dozen roses :D

above may or may not be true

on a more serious note OP, treat it as a lesson, the cost of the fine added to the possible increase in insurance premium would of more than paid for a bluetooth kit professionally installed.

Nokia CK-7W kits can be bought and installed for around 170e nowadays.

Were you just talking on the phone normally, or were you doing anything stupid to try and cover it up too, like when people put it on speakerphone and then hold it right in front of their mouth?

That you were so distracted with the phone, you didn't see them watching you? Maybe?

    I agree with this....

I do see some people on the road, with cars/mpv's worth close to,or even over €70,000,,and yet they couldn't bother to pay out an extra €30/€50 for a bluetooth. Beyond belief at times,to be honest.

Yeah,,the Gardai can use their phone as long as it "in the course of their duty"/ "work related".
