Will the day of a national system ever come in your opinion(s)??

Pretentious but to the point I suppose.

Sky & UPC have each about x20 to x40 the capacity possible on Pay DTT.
Between them they already have market at nearly 30% beyond typical Pay TV saturation.

DTT PayTV is much more costly (at least x10) to transmit 1/10th the number of channels.

So if it does launch, (which seems unlikely as envisaged by BAI), it's likely to go bust. maybe a very limited version "top up" TV like service might exist eventually only for Sport.

If (hopefully when!) the MMDS services are shut down, might there be a use for it in providing premium channels outside the cable-enabled areas?

Sky can do that with more channels for a 1/10th the cost.

True, but if there could be one thing worse than the current duopoly, it would be a (Sky) monopoly. I'm thinking of people like myself with a Freesat/FTA satellite set-up who might want to subscribe to, say, some sports channels without taking out a whole package with Sky.

But, as you say, it most likely doesn't make economic sense. :(

Dont think it will ever happen in Ireland and quite frankly Im not convinced it ever should.

The frequency spectrum for DTT is a national resource publicly owned. Surely it should only be used for FTA services rather than (further) lining the pockets of media conglomerates.

If people want pay TV theres lots of it on Satellite, Cable or MMDS. Why does anyone want it on terrestrial as well ?
