Doing a lot of traveling lately and wouldn't access to my media files.

I know I can set up a VPN but I don't want to leave my pc on full time for power consumption reasons.

I'll also have access to a laptop so don't want to be tied down to an app for iPad, iPhone and laptop.

NAS seems to be a good options. Any one have any suggestions?

Using a synoloy NAS with but only within the house...
reason? I'm on crappy eircom broadband with a lousy 384k upload speed...grand for audio but forget about it for video...

I took my ipad with me recently to Poland and just had a selection on both my ipad and laptop.
I had xbmc installed on the ipad and using a free app called "diskaid" I simply copied what I wanted over...worked a treat..

What about using something like Sugarsync\Dropbox to backup your files online and then download them to the phone on the go? There's referal threads for both in Bargain Alerts that will give you a bit of extra free space if you use one of the links.

you really can't beat the synology ready built NAS boxes, they're great for both local & remote streaming and their interface is by far the best of the bunch imho.

I would stay away from a buffalo link station. I have found them tricky to connect to at best.
