Wheel bearings for Honda Jazz

I had my car in for a pre-NCT with my usual mechanic (reliable and honest guy). He said both bearings are gone at the back and it might not pass. He also said these are only available from a Honda garage and he can get them for 170 each and fit the 2 for 40, thats 380. I had a look on micksgarage and found this...

    http://www.micksgarage.ie/autoparts.aspx?dept=339&MakeID=45&ModelID=4838&CarID=16317&assemblyid=100579&b=57&ga=

Can this be right? I would be 99.9% sure he's not trying to screw me but micksgarage has what it seems i need for €24 each.

    Any thoughts from anyone?

I had a dodgy wheel bearing on a Honda Accord recently. Dunno about the Jazz, but on the Accord a wheel bearing comes as part of a hub. I was quoted €250 + VAT for a spurious part and saw an OE quality one for about €90 on EBay. I rang a Honda dealer in the UK and theirs was coming in at €140 all in including delivery. For the laugh, I rang a Dublin-based Honda dealer: €140. They also said it would take 1.5 hours to fit.

I bought the part from my local dealer, bit I didn't take them up on their offer to fit it! I got an indy to install it. He charged me just 1 hours labour at a rate of about 2/3 Honda what Honda wanted from me.

So, do what I did: Ring a Honda dealer and find out the fitting time and the price of the part.

Its been a few years since I have done a wheel bearing but the last one I did was a civic, which was the hub type bearing. I bought a 2nd hand one in the local breakers for €15. Its about 30 minutes work if you have the right tools.

Rear wheel bearings for a jazz are available spurious, any decent motor factors can get them.

Rear bearings are usually only part of the hub (and therefore expensive) if there are drum brakes on the car. Jazz has disc brakes all round.

The Accord has disks on the back & the bearing is part of a hub.
