How do I play PS2 games on PS3?

Such a n00b question
Bought Sonic Mega Collection (PS2) today. My PS3 says it does not play PS2 games (first time I've tried one), "This version of Playstation 3 does not support PS2 software". FWIW, I have the PS3 with the larger hard drive.
I've set up a PS2 memory card slot, but no joy.
Do I need to download an update?

Only the original model with the 60GB HD can play PS2 games. A PITA, I know.

I have heard from reliable sources that SOME of the newer ps3 slims (which by the way r not frickin slim!!!) will play SOME ps2 games. Unfortch there is no set rule as to which games they will play - like only from certain creators or whatever - or which ps3's will accommodate. So it is just a case of trying ur ps2 games (all of them) in ur particular ps3 and seeing what happens!:)

Can't say I've ever heard of this, but can your reliable source give an example of a PS2 game that will work on a PS3 slim?

Might help if you have more than one game - but I just bought a 2nd hand PS2 slim from Game for just 40 euro a while back - does the job the PS3 is no longer qualified to do...

On a side note, I have an original 60GB Playstation 3!:p It's nice to crank up SSX Tricky occasionally!

I do wonder tho - did yall get rid of ur PS2s BEFORE u bought ur PS3s? Cos presumably ya needed a console to play PS2s on whilst u didn't got a PS3? So did ya not find out if yr PS3 was backwards compatible BEFORE slinging d PS2? Woulda made sense. I still have my PS2, so can play PS2 games on it.
(actually for some reason I cannot fathom, I STILL have my PSOne!!!! Even though the PS2 plays PSOne titles!!! Ah well).

its well worth getting btw .
whole lot of unlockables and achievements.
its just called the mega drive collection here if i remember correctly
game/xtravision do it for about 15 quid 2nd hand and about 20 new

I had a clear mind to collect the trilogy, so I did...

yea, i want to get d psp and all aswell. kinda a collector in that dpartment, just a poor one!!
