    Hi

I have a Zanussi Washing Machine and lat night I noticed the machine was very noisy during a wash. I checked when emptying it and the problem seems to be wit hte drum which makes a scraping sound when revolved one way and is very still when I try to revolve the other way. Any sugggestions what might be causing this - could it be that something has fallen down inside the drum and is rubbing off it as it turns or is it likely to be a bearing or something similar?

The machine is about 7 years old and would have a bit of mileage on!

    Thanks

Something has gone behind the drum, could be tricky!

You could first try to see if its something thats just slipped down the small gap bellow the rubber door seal and drum, this is where those small magnet type screw drivers are very handy, failing that a long pointed nosed plyers may find something.
Next place to look needs you to tip the machine back quite a bit to allow room to work under it, find the sump hose, the hose from the tub to the pump, release the clip holding it to the tub and remove, now again see it you can locate the problem item here, you will feel the heater just inside the opening, this quite often catches items and does love to grab the under wires from bra's for some reason.
Anyway, if after trying these places you have no luck then its a case of having to pay the call out. :(

    Good luck!!

    Thanks for the advice Billy

Becasue the machine is wedged in a very small utility room I was reluctant to pull it out so as to access underneath and behind it so I first gave the drum a good shaking and spinning and noticed it freed up a bit, When i checked the filter I found a small piece of copper pipe and what looked like some hard pollyfilla. No idea where this could have come from!! Anyway I ran the machine empty a couple of times and the noise lessenned each time. Also the amount of this pollyfilla like substance in the filter also diminished. So hopefully that will be the end of that.

    Thanks again
