Glass - is it toughened or laminated?

Hi - I would like to know how to identify whether glass is toughened or laminated - or neither.

I am acquiring some as part of a fitting I have purchased. It is clouded in appearance and previously used in retail display.

If I use the glass it will have to be cut down.

I understand toughened glass can't be re-cut, so how do I find out the status of the glass without trying and ending up potentially having a room full of shattered glass fragments?

    Thanks

You will know by looking at the edge of the glass. The toughened glass will look like normal glass- one solid piece.

Laminated glass is basically 2 pieces of glass stuck together with a clear plastic between them.

    Thanks for your reply.

Do you know if there is a way of telling whether the glass is toughened or just standard?

    Thanks

It should carry a safety mark on it

To my knowledge theres no visible difference. Like yosemite says, it may carry a safety symbol. If it came to it you could try smash one and then you'd know quick enough!

Well roryhy and yosemite, many thanks for your input.

It turns out the glass was in fact laminated and is now installed looking great.

We cut it down to size but in the end needed a professional to do it as the cutting tool we got wasn't up to the job.

    Thanks again for your replies.
