UFH and rads, efficient? need advice!

We are renovating and extending a bungalow to include replacing the floors. We are going to fit underfloor heating, however we have a dilemma as how far do we go.

We would fit it throughout the house apart from the fact we HATE anything other than carpets in the bedrooms. The jury appears to be out when it comes to carpets and UFH, even with the correct underlay. We would accept some inefficiencies as it comes to about 40% of the floor area of the house. However if we keep the (new) rads in the bedrooms does the boiler become less efficient as it is operating to different temperature requirements for the two systems?

It is a nearly new gas gloworm ultracom 18, hence we are staying with gas.

Any advice or experience greatly appreciated!

I have UFH upstairs with carpets in some of the rooms. I have the correct felt underlay and there are no issues with it. In my opinion it has the same reaction to the room as the rooms with timberfloors.
Without a doubt, tiles perform best...

I think if I was doing a retrofit and had to put rads upstairs and UFH downstairs then I would install a small buffer tank which would be dedicated to the UFH loops and heat the rads as normal... I have never looked into it as I wnet UFH up and downstairs, but I think that may be an option.

    Mike.
