Spotted this car on donedeal, its a 97 car with an NCT expiry in 2012, www.cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1840952

How is this possible as all cars have a test valid for 2 years so its NCT should be due in 2011 or 2013?

Looks like an official NCT, how did he obtain it?

....by going to the test centre?

Looks like an official NCT, how did he obtain it?

Because the NCT started in 2000, (I think for cars 6 years or older) - from http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/vehicle_standards/national_car_test.html
Since 2002 onwards, all cars 4 years and over are tested

So a 97 car would have been due it's first NCT in 2002 and every two years there after.....

It's definitely not always the case.
My car is 03, and NCT is due in 2012

    Is yours an import?

My Laguna is 1997 and its NCT is out in 2012.

Sorry lads all clear now, was due to it being registered pre the existance of the NCT.

Happens on some imported cars too - although it hasn't been consistent.

My imported 2005 got a 2 year NCT cert. last year, covering me until 2012.

I would assume thats because they now need to be NCT'd straight away when you register them so the date of NCT bears no real relevance to the year on the registration plate?....but could be wrong in saying that too.

It seems a lot of nice car for the money Atlantic Dawn, You thinking of taking a look at it? Mind you though wouldn't be too keen on the motor tax that goes with it. Insurance would be on the high side for most no doubt also..
