    Hi guys

Does anybody know if this is possible? My mate said a friend of his missus does it but when I rang Sky they didn't seem to have a clue. I wanna switch over for the Manchester derby in the morning.

    Cheers

You can but you have to keep it for a month; they now require a month's notice so I'm not sure if that's a month and one day or 2 months that you'll have to pay for it ?

They certainly don't provide a daily rate for Sky Sports though.

The minimum term is a month, never heard of anybody switching between Skysports 1 and 2 like that.Go to the pub instead.:D

If you do switch, you have to instruct them to switch it back at the end of the month, they'll probably try and push you to get both channels, this will also give you 3 and 4, the whole lot works out at €34 p.m-you're paying €19 p.m for 1 sport channel.

Seems to depend on who you talk to I think. I recently cancelled my full sports package to keep just sky sports 1, as I wanted the F1 channel, and also because the majority of football I watch is on Sky Sports 1. I was dealing with an Irish girl from what I presume was the Cork call centre. She told me, without me even asking, "you can always ring up and switch over from sky sports 1 to 2 etc if theres ever a match on, and we can do that free of charge for a few hours no problem"

Well I've just gotten off the phone from sky, I was put through to the english call centre, and talking to a guy. He told me it can't be done. From the sound of him he'd been asked it before, and then started going on about how they had changed their packages and that I now have ALL the entertainment channels. Like I should have been thanking him or something and that it was HIS personal decision to do that for me. A very odd line he took with me to be honest. I left him off and politely thanked him for his time, but did query why I was told something different by someone else only weeks ago. His tone suggested I had made it up. I dunno, it was an odd exchange.

    *Update

Rang back, got through to the Irish call centre. The girl gave me the phone number and extension to go to. It's now switched over, free of charge. Guy on the phone said it can be done as many times as you want, free of charge. You just need to ring back up and switch it back.

First negative experience with sky call centre.

I didnt reaise you could do this. I thought that you had to take the enire "sports package" which consists of Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, & 4 together with Sky Sports News.

So how much does your sports 1 cost now?

Indeed you can. It's now €17 extra a month.

I rang up sky today twice. Got through to two different people via two different numbers. Both say it is not possible to subscribe to a single sports channel ie need full package. I dont know what i should ring now.

I don't know what to tell you. What departments were you talking to ? What exactly did they tell you ? Unless in the last few WEEKS they've changed their packages, then you should either be able to get the full sports package giving you sky sports 1,2,3, and 4 for €34 per month, or just Sky Sports 1 for €17 per month. It was on the website in clear english a few weeks back when I changed.

I've just checked there now and it's not so straight forward. But as far as I'm aware, it'd still the deal. Ring back again and demand to speak to someone who will change your package for you.

Seems to add to the fact that sky are all about new customers, but couldnt give a toss about exsisting customers.

slight correction... sky sports 1 is 19 euro per month as thats what i have. so yes as others have said you can subscribe to sky sports 1 only but you wont have the new formula 1 channel or espn.

Its odd that they would allow this switching back and forth for particular matches. After all, much of the reason for putting matches on various differing channels is to make people take out bigger packages all the time.
Cork call centre are very good to deal with though I have to say - Returning calls even when I was calling about cancelling for example.

Getting Sports 1 only is not listed anywhere on their website that I can see so it would seem its down to the individual customer care reps when you phone in.

the option is there when you join online... it now defaults to the sports pack but if you look right under that it says subscribe to individual sports and movies channels and when you click that it give you the options you want.

So it has. Never spotted that before.

I do have the new Formula 1 channel. You'll get it with any Sky Sports package. Espn is a different package altogether.

Again, as someone said, what package/channels you get/can get seem to be down to who you speak to.

do you have sky hd? then you have it... unfortunately they state quite specifically that the F1 channel is available on the HD pack or to subscribers of BOTH sky sports 1 and 2... it dosent officially launch until friday anyway.

The F1 channel seems to be currently available to non Sky Sports 1 & 2 and HD subscribers. Expect that to change when the channel launches.

But as an existing customer, a window keeps popping up saying 'we see you are in Ireland, please ring 0818 $^$*$%$* to upgrade'. There doesn't seem to be an online option for existing customers. I posted a thread about it on the Sky Help Forum, and I was told by a sky person that the online option is the only option, no phone rep can upgrade me to a single sports channel.

No, I will still have it. I had this confirmed to me on the phone when I was cancelling the sky sports package and just keeping Sky Sports 1.

    I don't have HD.

It states on the website that if you are a subscriber to ANY of the sky sports channels, then you will recieve Sky F1.

Seems they've have changed a lot of the wording on the website in the past few weeks. As I've said before, when I changed my sports package, all of this was written in clear english on the site. It was quite clear to me at the time that I could cancel the entire sports package, keep sky sports 1, and with this I would also recieve sky F1. This was confirmed to me on the phone. She even had to go off to speak to a supervisor to make sure.

So I'm not concerned about losing my F1 channel come Friday.

remains to be seen whether you will still have it on friday with only one sports channel unless they have done a uturn on it.
