Similar thread on this last week

Not a bit of wonder Tunney lost the head with A/R/T. It's starting to annoy me now too

Using the search facility before starting a thread would be useful for not clogging up forum with similar topics

    Rant over

    Thanks

    Bad day!!

Nialooooo, good luck with Limerick. I've run 7 marathon's to date and have never bothered with protein shakes but of course, others will have different opinion. Exertion will be a factor too. My PB is 3:31.

My diet is generally well balanced but during training I find it craves more dairy which is probably it looking for more protein so all I do is eat more yogurt, milk, egss etc. Nothing major. I'm a big fan of milk as a recovery drink for long slow runs. Ideal macrobiotic and electrolyte something or other for replacing salts etc? --> it's far from electrolyte's I was brought up.

    On another point:
Maybe the Boards AC and regulars have become too big to give people who aren't visiting the site everyday a break.

Maybe they can set up their own boards site and whinge and moan at each other all day.

Maybe they shouldn't rant at a perfectly valid question for the forum.

Maybe some people should get a life and stop suppressing discussions and intimidating conversations.

    Who knows?

I've tried various recovery drinks (Torq, for example) and found that recovery is aided at least a little bit. I've also tried strawberry milk (Avonmore) and found...that recovery is aided, at least a little bit. And I've tried the "banana and a glass of milk" option, and found that recovery is aided, at least a little bit.

Bottom line - drink about a pint of milk, add a little carb (e.g a banana). But don't neglect to stretch well too!

I dont run marathons and like previous advice you need more carbs than protein.
If you are still wanting to take protein, I found maximuscle cyclone to be very palatable, especially the new mint chocolate flavour. It aslo contains creatine and glutamine besides protein and has some carb content but I think the reason they add carbs to the mix, it facilitates better protein uptake.

Look out for recovery drinks that contain a ratio of 4:1 for Protien to Carbs.

Tubs of powdered drinks can be expensive. You can often get good results from making up your own shakes with milk, banana, cocoa powder or drinking chocolate, honey and peanut butter. Of course, it doesnt help if you are away from home and cant plug your blender into sockets in a park.

Optimum time to have the shake is within 20 mins after workout. It still has benifits if you have it within an hour of finishing, but not as effective as drinking it within 20 mins.
