    Hi all

I was in work today and an engineer came into our comms room.

He was looking for a specific network connection.

He opened the comms cabinet and proceeded to wave this kind of wand
thing around. It had a speaker attached to one end and it emitted different
sounds depending on what network connection he moved it over.

What is this tool? What is it used for?

Called A Tone Generator, used to locate Data Cables in loom or a specific cable on a patch panel.
There is small unit that plugs into the wall outlet that emits a tone and the wand that you saw will amplify that signal and allow the cable to be identified.
