So... V-Day happens in a few days. Any madness over the weekend happening in Dublin or Maynooth, in the way of any singles nights or random VD related fun and games happening over the weekend, or on the Monday itself?

All else fails I'll goto the Anti-Romance Rocky Horror show on the Saturday...

the missus is 8 months pregnant and can hardly move, so I've reassured her that there's no mad effort required on her part to do anything special, I'll just be happy if she has the house clean and the dinner on time for once.

    :pac:

A mate of mine is running this : http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=135628019834935

It's a charity batchelor/batchelorette party, €15 in which includes a free bid and inclusion in all the raffles. I'm not going to make it but it sounds like fun!:)

Me and some of the girls might head to the Vintage Valentines Dress Dance in the Workman's Club, Wellington Quay. Old school cocktails and tunes, and cheaper entry if you're dressed up all Mad Men styleeeee! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vintage-Valentines-Day-Dress-Dance/192600424086151?ref=ts

I imagine I'll get home around 8 as usual for a Monday, have a bit of food, dick about on the net then go to bed.

Last day of a tour of Italy for me, finishing it up in Rome. Not going to ask the work colleague to do anything special for me, he has hard enough trouble picking sights to see during the day :D

^^^Always find doing something special just before Valentines day helps you get through valentines day without the feeling that you've been pushed into something...

..woops...Sorry OP...that was OT....haven't heard of anything special....Naas races are on Feb Sunday 20th....they do a good lunch package there with race card if you felt like getting the OH a day out for a bit of craic and something different...

Yeah way too soon to be doing anything...as in you only met her at the weekend, she prob meet someone else by this weekend...who knows...but a week is definitely too short to even consider doing something for Valentines.

That's your opinion and not necessarily hers.

@standman, ask her if she'd like to do something, even if it's just to get a cup of coffee/tea. You don't have to do any overly romantic gestures, just chat and whatnot.

I would agree with this. overall I think it's safe to say it would be weird to do anything after a week. though you should be the judge yourself as to whether or not it's suitable.

^^ I agree with going out for a drink or tea/coffee on the day. Cinema etc.

However as for buying gifts, lingerie, roses what have you...i think its too soon for that sort of stuff.

How about just a single flower? A sort of token gift but still nice.

That's a good idea actually, it's a nice gesture and not too over the top either.

Thankfully my girlfriend thinks its a stupid comercial holiday. we'll be spending it working and then watching zombie movies with pizza and beer!

A single flower is a safe bet, especially at the very beginning. Some women don't like overly romantic gestures.

Yeah the single flower worked well for me before in a similar situation. Obviously not every girl is the same, but I think the gesture will be appreciated and is understated. You could maybe add another small item if you felt it was a bit stingy.

It just monetised hypergamy and chivalrous dating ritual, isn't it?

A sophisticated version of an ape bringing a nice piece of meat to present to a female ape.

I don't pay it much mind at all.
