To Take the Driving Test in England or Ireland

    Hi,

I hope this is the right place to post this. Apologies if it isn't:confused:

I'm currently living in England and looking to get a full licence. I was just wondering if anyone might know the relative merits of taking the test in Ireland (Wicklow/Dublin) as opposed to in the UK. I have heard that the test in the UK is quite difficult to pass with low percentages actually passing. I'm just wondering how taking it in Ireland would compare.

    Thanks for any help!!

    To get an Irish license...

    Apply for theory test
Pass theory test some time later
Get learner permit (more than likely with new restrictions)
Wait 6 months until you can do your test, take necessary lessons and keep log book in the mean time
Pass test & get full license...

If you wanted to learn in ireland you would have to complete a theory test and apply for a new Learner Permit. As the uk provisional you have is only valid in the UK.

i remember when i learnt to drive my instructor who had thought and examined here and in the uk said that in general the irish tests content is generally quite easy but the standard is really high.

The opposite was said of england, the tests content was much broader but the standard was much lower

    Churchtown 42.3%
    Finglas 39.9%
    Raheny 37.7%
    Rathgar 30.6%
    Tallaght 41%
    Wicklow 39.3%

Where did you get these figures?
